The birthday lunch menu

In the Luigi XVI room that today houses the Florio restaurant because in those halls the symbolic family of the Belle Époque hosted illustrious guests, the king of starred chefs Fulvio Pierangelini prepared a dinner inspired by the flavors of Sicily. Waiting for midnight, guests were thus able to taste some of the island’s typical dishes.

The seven-course menu was varied: to start with appetizers of fennel, oranges and olives, mixed arancine, panelle, vegetable meatballs, seafood salad, tuna roast beef in tuna sauce, fried calamari and vegetables and zucchini parmigiana, all accompanied by a sparkling wine, Tasca’s Almerita brut 2017, a classic Sicilian-style wine made in Regaleali from Chardonnay grapes.

Then the first course, busiate alla norma of fresh Sicilian pasta, and the second course, a slice of grilled salmon with citrus fruits directly collected in the orchard of Villa Igiea. A Chardonnay was chosen to accompany the courses, this time by Planeta, a wine made in Sambuca di Sicilia in the first historic estate of the winery.

Finally, the dessert. There was no shortage of traditional cannoli (mignon version), cassatelle with ricotta, sfincioni with lemon cream and finally fruit and chocolate. To conclude it all, a sweet wine by Planeta, the passito di Noto produced right in the city where in 2018 Chiara and Federico said their “yes”, giving life to the most social marriage ever.
