Snails, rabbits, cats, swallows, elephants, turtles and penguins. There are over 40 maxi-sculptures of various sizes ready to invade two iconic spaces of the city of Palermo: from 10 May to 10 July, Cracking Art, one of the most famous contemporary art phenomena in the world, arrives in the Sicilian capital with the exhibition Stories.

Nature in nature; a new life and a new atmosphere take over Palermo’s greenery through the appearance of surprising creatures in regenerated plastic, with a “widespread” exhibition that takes place right in the historic gardens of Villa Malfitano and Villa Trabia (Villa Malfitano: from Monday to Sunday , from 10 to 13 and from 16 to 19; Villa Trabia: from Monday to Sunday, from 8 to 20).
An invasion of “sustainable” sculptures, creatures in dialogue with the urban space, take possession of the place with the light spirit of a wonderful game. Very large animals with bright colors make the heart of Palermo an open-air art gallery, a special museum without barriers where the protagonists are always nature and respect for it.
There are many stories that can be told every day through the use of smartphones and the applications connected to them. Narratives that are shared in short clips – known as “stories”, in fact – and that are often enriched by the use of filters, stickers, music that add elements of fantasy to what you see, creating real personalized interpretations of reality surrounding.
Cracking Art works are also this: unexpected insertions of fantasy elements that populate the real world to reinterpret it and give different meanings. Each work fits into the context to give a message, to interpret the place or to give an unexpected vision of a known place. The “stories” encountered in the installations at Villa Malfitano and Villa Trabia draw their origin from the history of the place to reinterpret it in the form of a contemporary fairy tale.
The exhibition, with the patronage of the Municipality of Palermo and the Department of Culture, promoted by the Terzo Pilastro-Internazionale Foundation at the behest of its President Prof. Avv. Emmanuele F. M. Emanuele, created by the Culture and Art Foundation with the organizational support of Comediarting and Arthemisia, in collaboration with the G. Whitaker Foundation, is curated by the Cracking Art collective and is designed and desired free and outdoors, so that it can be within everyone’s reach, not only in terms of accessibility but also so that it can be internalized by stimulating the reactions and attention of the individual and – at the same time – of the community towards important issues of social interest.
Plastic, in fact, transforms itself and becomes a means of communication: from a simple material in common use and a substance potentially harmful to the environment, it shapes itself, becoming a decorative element and a source of inspiration.
The Cracking Art installations – a movement known throughout the world for its attention to the environment, for its strong ecological commitment and for the practice of regeneration that has made its creations iconic – are inserted and confronted with the history and architecture of places that host them and come alive with the empathic interactions that are established with the public. Each work, with the subject represented, is the bearer of a message that each visitor is called to interpret and spread.
