Crystal clear sea, shallow water on the shore, clean and accessible beach, assistance for swimmers and lifeboats. These are the main characteristics of the beaches proclaimed “Bandiere Verdi” because they are suitable for kids.
The new list of Bandiere Verdi 2022 was unveiled a few days ago. In Italy there are 145 in all and Sicily, with 18 beaches, boasts the second place after Calabria (which has just 1 more). This year, however, unlike previous editions, unfortunately, the island has not gained any new entries.

The banner that rewards kid-friendly beaches is a sort of ‘guide’ for parents looking for holidays with everything they need for little swimmers, which is made every year by Italian and foreign pediatricians on the initiative of its creator Italo Farnetani. An important recognition for local tourism because it can act as a flywheel to promote an area as a “family-sized” tourist destination.

This year the Bandiere Verdi 2022 Delivery Ceremony will take place in Sicily, as part of the 5th International workshop of Green flags – VIII National Convention of Bandiere Verdi, which will be held on 9 July in Mazara del Vallo in the Jesuit College.
These awards have been the driving force for the development of services for children and adolescents. There hasn’t been a green flag location that hasn’t invested. They have flourished from concessions in hotels to minibuses to facilitate family travel, from equipped games on the beach to menus for children. And again, over the years health services such as pediatric guards, cycle paths and much more have grown. The localities have always kept the promises and qualities of summer destinations for children.
